12.1, Contributor Notes


Bella Burhanna: I am a 4th year at UGA studying Anthropology and Biology, and I am planning to pursue a PhD in Biological Anthropology. I wrote this paper for my Bioarchaeology class last spring semester (2024), and because of how much I ended up caring for the topic, I decided to submit it to The Classic Journal.

Naiomi Cookson is a recent graduate from the University of Georgia where she received her bachelor’s degree in anthropology with a minor in historic preservation and certificates in museum studies and computing. She is currently employed as a research assistant in the paleontology department at the Field Museum of Natural History where she is researching therapsid postcranial morphology.

Ellie Halpert is a third year biomedical physiology student at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She is also a student of the University of Georgia Morehead Honors College and a General Business Minor. Ellie interned at NYBRA Plastic Surgery under Dr. Ron Israeli in Summer 2024. She intends to attend medical school to further her knowledge of biomedical physiology and advance towards a career in medicine.

Adelaide Loechl is currently a senior at the University of Georgia, majoring in anthropology and minoring in medical and biological anthropology. She is interested in studying biological anthropology, medical anthropology, public health, epidemiology, and bioarchaeology. In the future, she plans on attending graduate school to study public health. 

Joseph Mazzola is an undergraduate student pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Women’s and Gender Studies and in Comparative Literature, and an undergraduate certificate in LGBTQ Studies. Their main academic interests include queer theory and literary criticism, and he is also interested in cultural studies and music—particularly punk music, politics, and subculture; LGBTQ music and artists; and how LGBTQ artists engage with queer and trans political and personal issues. Joseph was Local Music Director at WUOG for two years and plans to work in public radio broadcasting after graduation.

Riya Sachdeva is an Ecology major at the University of Georgia with an interest in environmental justice and a mission to bridge the gap between the scientific community and the legal system.

Sneha Sharma is a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Georgia, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a certificate in Music Business. She has been actively involved in research projects through CURO focusing on Indian music, specifically the Carnatic classical tradition and contemporary film music. Her interest in ethnomusicology fields of study has evoked passion for studying several unconventional counterparts of artistic processes including technology, linguistics, anthropology and business. As a vocalist, she enjoys singing music from different parts of the world, in new languages. In her spare time, she is dedicated towards learning Carnatic music, exploring different nature trails, and reading. Looking forward, she is excited to delve into her upcoming opportunities at UGA.

Caroline Shatzer is a fall 2024 graduate from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Asian languages and literature with a Korean emphasis. After living in South Korea as a teenager, she developed a deep interest in all aspects of Korean history, language, and culture, which led her to this research project. In the future, she hopes to find a career closely tied to Korean culture and language where she can combine her mathematics and research skills to work on meaningful projects.

Emily Stachowski: I am a fourth-year Fisheries & Wildlife Pre-vet major. I am currently at Animal Wellness Center as a vet tech and at the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study as a lab technician testing for mosquito-borne viruses. I am co-founder and co-president of the Field Naturalist Society at UGA, as well as a member of the CAES Pre-vet Club, the Warnell Pre-Vet Club, and The Wildlife Society. I am currently working on an undergraduate thesis studying green sea turtle population dynamics and genetics in the panhandle of Florida. My goal is to be a veterinarian at a zoo or aquarium after vet school. 

Jack Steyer is a fourth-year student at the University of Georgia studying History and Political Science. After graduation, he will attend the University of Georgia School of Law. In his free time, Jack enjoys watching the Georgia Bulldawgs Football Team and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
